Police: 18-year-old shot, killed in Sanford

Sanford police are investigating after an 18-year-old man was shot and killed early Wednesday while riding his bicycle. 
Police were called to the intersection of Terry Lane and Scott Drive after residents called 911 saying they heard at least 15 gunshots.
The shooting was reported shortly after midnight
Police said they found Lester Inman with gunshot wounds to his head. Inman lives near the shooting, police said.
Firefighters tried to treat him at the scene, but he died of his injuries.

One of the bullets went through the window of a home. The homeowner said it was his daughter’s bedroom, but she’s out of town.
“A bullet could have hit someone in their house. It could’ve hit someone driving down the road,” said resident Joy Turner.
According to a police report, someone saw an SUV speed away from the scene shortly after the shooting. 
The report said there were bystanders in the area, but no one reported seeing anything suspicious. 
A Crimeline reward sign was placed at the scene and stated that a $5,000 reward is available for anyone with information.
The shooting death marks the ninth homicide in the city this year.
Police said they are aware that some people are not comfortable speaking with officers, but they hope any witnesses will call in tips an anonymously.
The homicide rate is the most the city has seen in 10 years.  
There were five homicides in the city last year.
