ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - An Altamonte Springs man faces charges after authorities said he possessed thousands of
pornographic images of children on his computer.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Cyber Crimes Task Force and Altamonte Springs Police arrested Alan Smith, 34, at his home Tuesday on Sabal Palm Circle in Altamonte Springs.
Smith is facing 10 charges in connection with the initial investigation.
However, when authorities entered Smith's apartment and saw his computer, they said there could be up to 100,000 additional child porn images.
Neighbors said they barely saw Smith leave his apartment.
"He was not a recognized face," said neighbor Yasmin Serrato. "Even our neighbors here were like, 'I've never seen him before.'"
"He has no profession right now, so he stays home and as early as this morning, he's downloaded child porn," said Special Agent Jeff Duncan.
Detectives said they have been watching Smith and his computer activity for the last few months after their task force realized he may be downloading child porn.
At this point, investigators said they haven't found any evidence Smith contacted minors for sex, but they still have to dissect the computer's hard drives.
"We previewed his phone and his computer, and there's nothing that indicates there's child victims here," said Duncan.
Smith is being held at the Seminole County Jail on $11,000 bond.
