HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - A bus driver was arrested Thursday on a child abuse charge after authorities said she used her foot to push an 8-year-old girl off the bus.
The bus driver for Hillsborough County Public Schools was transporting
special-education students to Tampa Bay Elementary School in September when officers said the child slapped and pushed the driver because she told the girl to wait her turn to get off the bus.
Officers said the girl started to walk down the steps, but then stopped in the middle of the stairs. That's
when authorities said 40-year-old Stephanie Wilkerson pushed the child off the bus, fracturing her ankle.
Wilkerson was booked into jail without incident, officers said.
