Police: Homeless man shot in downtown Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police said they are looking for a gunman who shot a homeless man in the neck in Orlando early Friday morning.

According to Orlando police, at around 1:20 a.m. 46-year-old Roger William Franks was shot in the neck as he walked in the 1000 block of West Central Boulevard.

According to police, Franks was walking to the Coalition for the Homeless when he was approached by a man on a bicycle.

Police said the man told Franks to come with him. Franks began walking quickly to get away from the man.

According to police, Franks said as he walked away he saw out of the corner of his eye a flash and heard a gunshot. Police said he realized he had been shot in the right side of his neck and began running eastbound on Central Boulevard.

Franks was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center to be treated for the injuries.

Police said Franks described the gunman as a black male, approximately 20 years old, with a mustache, short hair and wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
