Man charged with attempted murder after opening door, shooting at cops, Kissimmee police say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — An armed man was shot Thursday evening after he shot at three officers at an apartment complex, the Kissimmee Police Department said.

Police said they were called shortly before 10 p.m. to Wickham Avenue near Dyer Boulevard and West Columbia Avenue after a woman said a neighbor, identified as 50-year-old Lance Wester, was threatening her with a gun.

When police officers knocked on Wester's door they said he opened it and started shooting. The officers returned fire, striking the man in the leg, said police spokeswoman Bailey Myers.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatement, she said. The officers were uninjured.

Police said Wester is now facing a charge of attempted murder.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

No other details were given.
