Police: Man left baby in shopping cart at Clermont Walmart

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Police in Clermont said surveillance video helped lock up a father who is accused of leaving his infant daughter alone in a busy store.

They said Aramis Saunders left the girl sitting in a shopping cart for at least 30 minutes in a Walmart last week.

“It’s definitely irresponsible. It’s not a smart thing to be doing,” said Saunders’ neighbor, Josh Drummond.

Police said shoppers noticed the baby alone in the picture frame aisle and called police.

Saunders claimed he left the child with her mother while he went to the restroom, but police said surveillance video proves that isn’t true.

They said the video shows the girl’s mother was nowhere in sight and Saunders actually went to the ATM.

Saunders was arrested and later released on bond. Investigators did not say if the Department of Children and Families was investigating the incident.
