Man shot, another pistol-whipped while sitting outside Altamonte apartment

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Crimeline posters went up in front of the Altamonte Villa Apartments on Wednesday offering $1,000 for tips about two wanted gunman, who police said approached and robbed a group of men Tuesday night.

The incident happened at the Altamonte Villa apartments on Orienta Drive.

Police said the men were sitting on a landing area on the second floor of one of the apartment buildings, when two other men walked up with the intent to rob them.

"They immediately brandished guns and shouted, 'Money, give me money!' A struggle ensued and one of the men was shot in the lower abdomen," said Officer Rob Pelton of the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

Police said one man was shot in the abdomen and the other was hit in the head with the pistol.

"I got the chills. It was scary. A scary thought, because I live here with my kids," said a resident who did not want to be identified.

Witnesses said they saw the men flee on foot, but police were not able to find them.

"They were just approaching them for money and he wouldn't give it to them, so he got shot," she said.

Authorities said they put up the Crimeline posters because they are looking for witnesses who might be able to describe the men.

"It's shocking, it really is. It's been quiet the whole time I've been here. I mean, it's been a nice neighborhood. Never seen or hear anything like this," said resident Randy Ganger.

Investigators said they were interviewing the victims and were hoping to create a composite sketch.

The men, whose names were not released, were recovering in the hospital.

Police said anyone with any information about the crime should call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
