Police: Man shot in Kissimmee was would-be intruder; accomplices charged with murder

KISSIMMEE. Fla. — Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an attempted home invasion in Kissimmee last month that led to the fatal shooting of their accomplice, the Kissimmee Police Department said Thursday.

Orange County deputies arrested Wayne Benjamin Richardson, 22, and Anthony Michael James, 28. They are charged in a March 29 shooting at a home on Jessa Drive in the Marisol at Lakeside subdivision near Simpson and Fortune roads, police spokeswoman Stacie Miller said.

The shooting left Jorge Luis Velez, 47, dead, Miller said.

Investigators said Richardson, James and Velez conspired to commit a home invasion robbery.

“During the attempted home invasion, Mr. Velez was shot as he attempted to make entry into the home,” Miller said.

The duo was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit a home invasion robbery.

No other details were given.
