MIAMI - Authorities in South Florida are searching for a man they say shot his stepdaughter on her 21st birthday.
Miami-Dade police found a vehicle belonging to 49-year-old Bernex Lucas on Thursday night, hours after the shooting.
According to officials, Lucas narrowly missed hitting his wife with a gunshot. Both women were taken to a Miami hospital.
Dayana Saint-Fort told the Miami Herald she was driving by the house when she saw the 21-year-old victim begging for help. Saint-Fort says the woman told her she didn't want to die on her birthday.
Saint-Fort applied pressure to the woman's wound and tried to keep her awake until help arrived.
No further details were immediately available.
