MELBOURNE, Fla. - A Brevard County man tried to out-swim Melbourne police, officers said Saturday.
Authorities said they tried stopping the man, whose name was not released, because he was riding a stolen scooter.
The man abandoned the scooter and ran, but police dogs tracked him down to his hiding place under a nearby dock, police said.
WFTV asked him why he allegedly tried to escape.
"Why were you swimming across the water?" asked a WFTV photographer.
"I was just swimming, having fun, brother," he replied.
"You were having fun, trying to get away from the cop?"
"I wasn't trying to get away from nobody."
"Why are they arresting you?"
"Take that camera…and put it where the sun don't shine, brother."
A local fisherman let police use his boat so they could follow the man.
Police said he eventually got tired of swimming and surrendered.
