Deputies: 1 fatally shot, 1 wounded in Pine Hills

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man was found with a gunshot wound early Wednesday near downtown's Lake Lucerne, the Orlando Police Department said.

The man, whose identity wasn't released, was found shortly after 4 a.m. at South Orange Avenue and North Lucerne Circle, police said.

He told police that he was shot in the stomach in Orange County's Pine Hills neighborhood.

The man told investigators that he drove State Road 408 to the South Orange Avenue exit to try to get to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance in an unknown condition.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a shooting was reported shortly before 3:45 a.m. on Denson Drive near North Powers Drive and Silver Star Road.

Investigators said a neighbor heard gunfire and found a wounded man lying unconscious on a lawn. He was taken to Ocoee's Health Central Hospital, where he died.

Longtime Denson Drive resident Gladys Willoughby said she didn't know anyone lived in the home where the man was found Wednesday.

She said this type of situation happens in the area far too often.

"It's very sad, because there is some good people up and down the street that work hard, and honest, and then they have to contend with it," Willoughby said. "I'm elderly, and I can stay pretty well locked up in the house and not worry about it."

"We do not know what led up to this shooting," Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Williamson said. "There's no description of arguing or yelling or anything like that."

Two men were seen driving away from the scene, deputies said.

Investigators said they're trying to determine if the shootings are connected.
