Police: Masked man armed with baseball bat robs Altamonte 7-Eleven

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Police in Altamonte Springs are looking for the man they say tried to rob a 7-Eleven with a baseball bat.

The robbery happened about 5:30 a.m. Monday at the 7-Eleven on Lake Destiny Road.

Video shows the clumsy robber entering the store and then getting his bag caught on a display as he demands cash from the clerk.

"Nothing indicates that this would be an inside job," said Rob Pelton, of the Altamonte Springs Police Department. "It looks like it was a poorly planned attempt to get some money, which he was unsuccessful at."

According to police, the robber fled the store on foot when the clerk told him he didn't have any money.

Police said the man was caught on camera trying to cut the power to the security system prior to the robbery. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the camera recorded a clear shot of his face.

"So, we actually have a before-the-mask and after-the-mask photo," Pelton said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Altamonte Springs Police.
