Police: Missing Tavares woman with diminished mental capacity found safe

TAVARES, Fla. — A 18-year-old woman with the mental capacity of a 10-year-old who disappeared Monday evening from her home was found safe Tuesday morning, the Tavares Police Department said.

Asja Gunn’s mother called police at about 9:30 p.m. to report that her daughter was missing from their home in The Pines at Lake Saunders subdivision near David Walker Drive and Dora Avenue, Tavares police Cpl. Sarah Coursey said.

Tavares police and Lake County deputies used bloodhounds and a helicopter to search for Gunn, who has Asperger’s syndrome and bipolar disorder, but they were unable to find her.

Police found Gunn walking near her home. She was returned to her mother.
