Police: Orlando police officer arrested in fiery toll plaza crash

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando police officer who crashed into a State Road 408 toll plaza last month was arrested Wednesday, the Orlando Police Department said.

Orlando police Officer Fred Rolle was off duty on Nov. 18 when his pickup truck crashed into the toll plaza near the South Conway Road exit and the vehicle caught fire, Orlando police Sgt. Eduardo Bernal said.

"Officers responded to Rolle's home, where he was found to be injured and was transported to the hospital," Bernal said.

Rolle met with detectives at the Orange County Jail, where he was arrested, Bernal said.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, driving under the influence with property damage and driving under the influence.

Rolle, who has been with the agency since November 2011, remains relieved of duty with pay.

He works as an officer at Orlando International Airport. Rolle was transferred to the airport when he got his job back earlier this year after he was fired for an unauthorized pursuit in 2015.

The internal investigation is ongoing, Bernal said.

Rolle posted bail and is out of jail.
