Sketch released in Altamonte Springs abduction attempt

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Altamonte Springs police have released a composite sketch of the man who tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl from her apartment complex.

Officers responded to The Preserve at Spring Lake apartments on Wymore Road around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The victim told Eyewitness News she was walking to the pool just before what was supposed to be her surprise birthday party when the incident happened.

"I thought he was trying to take me to his car because that is where he was pulling me towards and the door was open," said the teenager, who wasn't identified.

The teen told investigators that a man in a red shirt grabbed her arm and started speaking to her in Spanish. The girl was able to run back to her apartment and the man fled in his minivan.

"I know what he looks like because I saw him, I saw his face," the victim said.

The girl's father told WFTV that he chased the man with a baseball bat, but could not catch him.

Altamonte Springs police said they're hoping someone will recognize the man in the sketch. The case remains under investigation.
