Woman attacked while jogging in Winter Springs

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — Winter Springs police are searching for a man they said attacked a female jogger Sunday night.

According to police, a 55-year-old woman was jogging in the Tuscawilla area around Northern Way and Gary Hillery Drive when she was attacked.

According to police, the man grabbed the woman, punched her in the face and stole her cellphone. The woman is still hospitalized.

"She was beaten extensively about the face," said Chief Kevin Brunelle.

Police said during the attack that the man told the woman he had a gun and warned her not to scream. The woman was eventually able to run to a nearby 7-Eleven where she called for help.

Police said they've since increased patrols in the area.

Witnesses were unable to give authorities a good description because it was dark when the incident happened.

"I think the community should be alarmed anytime something like this happens," said Brunelle.

Authorities said the woman suffered multiple bruises and broken bones.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
