Police search for men who put skimming device on Winter Park ATM

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Winter Park police are looking for two men they said may have accessed customers’ bank information through a rigged ATM.

Investigators said the men were caught on surveillance video putting a skimmer on an ATM at a SunTrust bank on Carolina Avenue near Park Avenue.

Police don’t know how long the device was on the machine, but said it was discovered on May 6.

The skimming device saves users' card numbers and pin codes which are then replicated into counterfeit copies for theft.

“That’s probably the reason I started using credit cards more often. I can just get my money back immediately with a credit card, versus a debit card,” said Winter Park resident Ruben Portalatin.

Police said it’s an open investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline.
