Police search for possible gunman at Fla. school

LAKELAND, Fla. — Lakeland police are searching a middle school campus after a possible gunman was reported in the area.

Sgt. Gary Gross said Southwest Middle School was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure Thursday morning.

Greg Bondurant, Polk County public schools' director of safety, said a student reported seeing a gunman on campus, although authorities have not found any evidence of that after a roughly half-hour search.

Police said they were "going through the motions of searching the school."

Bondurant stated, "The principal said, `All the people here are supposed to be here'."
