Police: Man tries to kidnap 13-year-old boy in Baldwin Park

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police are still searching for a man who is accused of trying to kidnap a 13-year-old boy in Baldwin Park near Ethan Lane and Prospect Avenue.

The boy said he was out for a jog Sunday morning when he stopped to use the bathroom at one of the portable toilets nearby. Right after he left the restroom, the man called him over and tried to force him into his pickup truck.

Fran Grossman spends much of the year in Chicago, one of America's most dangerous cities. When visiting Baldwin Park, she lets her guard down, but said you can become a victim anywhere.

"No place is ever safe, even though you would hope it would be," Grossman said.

Grossman said she was walking near Prospect Avenue and Ethan Lane right around the same time the boy says a man tried to kidnap him, but she didn't see anything.

"We just have to teach our kids to be as cognizant and aware of everything going on around them," Grossman said.

The boy described the suspect's truck as a black Chevy Silverado. After noticing a black Chevy parked on the street, officers talked to workers, but so far, that has not led to an arrest.

Officers have circled the area looking for more leads. The man is described as white with red hair, a goatee and a large frame.

"This is our world now. It's a new world," Grossman said.
