Driver accused of killing skateboarder transferred to mental facility

SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. — The Volusia County driver accused of killing a skateboarder on Monday has been transferred to a mental facility.

Officer said Jody Arcuri had drugs in her car when she hit and killed 22-year-old Stephen Wilson in South Daytona.

The victim's family members told Channel 9’s Blaine Tolison they are not angry and are going to try to forgive the driver.

Police said Arcuri swerved and hit Wilson along U.S. 1 in South Daytona Monday afternoon.

“He was a great guy. He wasn’t perfect, but he was a very loving person. He has a big heart. It’s hard to describe him right now,” said Wilson’s brother, Sean Wilson.

His family is banning together, in order to come to grips with Stephen’s death.

Police said Arcuri had marijuana, a crack pipe and prescription pills in her car Monday afternoon.

She took a field sobriety test and was then taken into custody under the Baker Act.

Arcuri later went to jail for drug possession charges.

Police said they're still waiting on blood test results to determine if she was under the influence at the time of the crash.

Arcuri bonded out of jail Tuesday and is now in a behavioral health center.

According to her driving records, Arcuri had some violations in the past.
