COCOA, Fla. — A Cocoa police officer was injured Thursday after a suspect fled an attempted traffic stop, police said.
The driver of a suspicious vehicle believed to have been stolen ran over the officer's foot in an attempt to flee, a Cocoa Police Department spokesperson said.
The officer was trying to stop the suspect at about 9:30 p.m. near Fiske Boulevard and Groveland Street.
Police said the vehicle, a PT Cruiser, was stolen.
A brief chase ensued on foot and the suspect was taken into custody.
The officer is being treated for a foot injury.
Video from the scene showed that the PT Cruiser was involved in a crash, but police have not released any details about a crash.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
