Teen accused of stabbing 17-year-old in possible Daytona Beach gang fight

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A teenager was stabbed after police said a fight between a group of students in a neighborhood got out of hand Monday afternoon and one of them pulled out a knife.

Police said Gharyhis Major, 16, stabbed Kemari Dallas, 17, in the face and stomach multiple times on the 1000 block of Sheridan Road in Daytona Beach.

Several incidents of bullying in the area may have led to the incident, police said.

Officials said the fight could have been a gang turf war.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said Major, a 10th-grader from Atlantic High School, pulled out a knife and stabbed Dallas, who was trying to break up a fight.

“This is absolutely ridiculous. You have a bunch of students get in a fight and you have a 10th-grader that gets into it, and we have someone stabbed three times,” Chitwood said.

Dallas was stabbed twice in the abdomen and once in the face.

Major and Deondre Wheeler, 15, were arrested on accusations of the stabbing.

Chitwood does not know what led to the stabbing, but said something has been going on in the neighborhood in the last several weeks.

“The older kids are picking on the middle school (students) and today a 10th-grader decided to pull out a knife and escalated what clearly is some type of bullying here,” Chitwood said.

Major and Wheeler are charged with felony aggravated battery, but authorities said it's too early to know if they'll be charged as adults.

Police said Dallas is in stable condition.
