Police use social media to help locate accused pedophile from 1990s incident

PALM BAY, Fla. — Palm Bay police are hoping social media will help locate an accused pedophile and 20-year wanted fugitive.

Police said Douglas Adams has been wanted since the 1990s after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with sexual battery on a child.

Channel 9 learned that Adams may be living under an assumed identity, possibly Lee Douglas or Robert Wuolle.

"He was supposed to turn himself in; he didn't. Instead he decided to flee," Palm Bay Police Sgt. Michael Pusatere said.

Police said that at one point, Adams assumed the identity of a dead man to avoid the reach of U.S. marshals. Investigators believe that Adams was in Miami, Phoenix and Guadalajara, Mexico.

The victim told police that Adams began sexually abusing her when she was 8 years old and continued until she was 12 years old. The original investigators said Adams apologized to the victim.

"I don't want him in my neighborhood and I don't think too many people want him in their neighborhood," Palm Bay resident Pam Bartley said. "I just can't imagine anybody harming a child, and somebody who's done this, they need to pay because it just didn't affect them when the crime occurred. It's going to have an impact on their entire life."

Channel 9 contacted the victim, who asked that her story be shared. Police are using Facebook to help share her story as well.

"Even if he is deceased, we'd like to know that so the victim has some peace and isn't looking over her shoulder," Pusatere said.

Police said that even though he might have changed his name, they hope his hobbies haven't changed. Adams enjoyed woodworking and doing body work on cars, particularly Mustangs, according to police.
