Police: Woman believed to have been abducted by boyfriend calls police, says she's OK

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police said a woman who was believed to have been abducted by her boyfriend Friday morning called police and said she was OK.

Police said Shawn Adams, 22, beat up his on-again off-again girlfriend Kanisha Howard, 26, and shoved her into a car about 1 a.m.

They were last seen in a black Chevy Impala with a Florida Air Force tag MV817, but police said Howard called police, said she's fine and that she wants to be left alone because she has a warrant out for her arrest. No other details were released about the call.

Police responded to a home on Aberdeen Street for a report of a domestic disturbance about 1 a.m.

Howard’s family told police Adams beat Howard outside the home and dragged her across the front yard.

When police got to the home, they said Adams sped off in the Chevy Impala after pushing Howard into the car.

A black Chevy Impala was spotted later on Thomasson Avenue.

The car was facing northbound in the southbound lanes with the driver and passenger doors open.

The officer saw that a woman was hanging halfway out of the car, and she appeared to be unconscious.

Police said Adams sped away when the officers approached.

It’s not clear why police didn’t pursue the car.

Court records show that Adams has a criminal record that includes battery, assault and theft. He’s also a person of interest in a drive-by shooting, according to court documents.

Investigators may still charge Adams with battery.
