POLK COUNTY, Fla. - The Polk County Sheriff's Office said a deputy found in his crashed patrol car is dead.

Investigators said the car was found off Bomber Road in Winter Haven after a 911 caller reported hearing the crash.

According to investigators, Master Deputy Sheriff Joseph “Shane” Robbins, 40, was found unresponsive in the car.

Robbins was transported to Winter Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"I love these deputies like they're my own children. So today, it's like losing one of your family members," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

Sheriff's officials said no other vehicles were involved in the crash. They are asking that anyone who may have seen or heard anything call them at (863) 298-6300.

Investigators said Robbins was on his way to a computer repair shop. He was driving westbound on Bomber Road towards U.S. Route, 17 near Spruce Road, when the crash occurred.

Robbins was a 15-year veteran of the Polk County Sheriff's Office and was married with five children, according to the sheriff's office.
