Power cut for Palm Bay mobile home residents due to safety concerns

PALM BAY, Fla. — A Palm Bay mobile home community has been dealing with a lack of electricity for nearly a week after safety concerns caused Florida Power and Light to cut off service.

According to city officials, there were exposed live wires and improperly mounted electricity meters at Whybrew Trailer Park in the area of Interstate 95 and Malabar Road.

That prompted FP&L to cut the power, which was a serious cause for concern to resident Joseph Schaeffer.

“That really worries me, because we need electricity in this heat and, you know, kids need it too,” he said.

Many residents declined to comment on the issue out of fear they would be kicked out of the mobile home park.

After being questioned by Channel 9 about the issue, repair crews responded to the community and removed some of the exposed wires.

Palm Bay officials also said it has issued permits for FP&L to turn on power for families who have been without electricity since last week.

Property managers in New Jersey did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the power issues at Whybrew.
