Pregnant manatee rescued off New England coast back in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — A U.S. Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry landed at Orlando International Airport Tuesday carrying some particularly precious cargo.

A pregnant manatee named Washburn was rescued in the chilly waters off the coast of Massachusetts on Sept. 22 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Eating for two brought to you by Big Y! All of us at Mystic Aquarium would like to thank Big Y for the donation of romaine lettuce in support of the rehabilitation efforts of the rescue manatee currently in our care.

She was taken to Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, where she remained until it was safe to relocate her.

Tuesday, she was loaded into the Coast Guard plane and flown to Orlando.

She is now the newest resident of SeaWorld, where she will be cared for until veterinarians and other experts decide she is ready to be released back into the wild.

#Shoutout to U.S. Coast Guard Northeast who transported a rescued pregnant manatee from Connecticut to Florida!! Rescue...
