SUMTER COUNTY, Fla.,None - Prosecutors are expected to wrap up their case in the Sumter County double murder trial of Bill Marquardt on Friday.
He's accused of shooting and stabbing Margarita Ruiz and Esperanza Wells in their Tarrytown cottage in 2000.
Marquardt, who is acting as his own attorney despite facing the death penalty, pulled some courtroom theatrics on Thursday.
“When you found the nine millimeter bullets next the refrigerator on March 18, 2000, did you yell ‘Ah ha!’ for excitement?” Marquardt asked a witness.
“No,” the witness replied.
Marquardt was removed from a Wisconsin mental hospital to stand trial, but was still ruled competent to represent himself.
