Renderings released of 'I-Drive 360' project

ORLANDO, Fla. — Channel 9 got a better picture of what a multimillion-dollar development on International Drive will look like.

Renderings were released Wednesday for the Orlando Eye project at the old Mercado site.

The name of the project is "I-Drive 360" because the developer ran into some issues with past project names that were similar to names of attractions in other parts of the country.

When the project is completed, officials said they are expecting between 8,000 to people a day to visit the new attraction.

Visitors will experience an underwater tunnel at the Sea Life aquarium, new restaurants and a ride on the Orlando Eye, which will be 400 feet tall, and visit Madame Tussauds Celebrity Wax Museum.

"When they see what we have, it'll be a reason to stay an extra day and experience what we have. So, it'll pump a lot of extra money into the economy that wouldn't have been here because the guests aren't leaving when they would have," said UniCorp rep. Chuck Whittall.

The project is expected to be completed by this fall, but Orlando Eye passengers will not get to ride it until spring of next year.

About 2,000 new jobs are expected to be created once the whole project is complete.

The size of the development is the equivalent of 24 football fields.
