Resident shoots at potential home invader in Winter Garden

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — A 20-year-old shot at a potential home invader Friday, scaring the man and his accomplice away, Winter Garden police said.

Officers said a man and a woman tried to break into a home on Bainbridge Loop in Winter Garden.

“It would appear a black male with a ski mask on was banging on the glass with a brick. As the window shattered, the victim shot at the suspect,” said Lt. Scott Allen, of the Winter Garden Police Department.

Winter Garden police said a woman kept knocking on the door, and the 20-year-old couldn’t see through the peephole because a wreath was blocking it, but he noticed a car in the driveway.

“He walked around to the front windows, looked out, saw a bronze car parked in the driveway. He didn’t recognize it. He didn’t answer. He said they knocked for several minutes. After that, they left and he thought it was a done deal,” said Allen.

Police said the pair returned a few minutes later, and that’s when the resident grabbed his rifle.

Winter Garden police said they think the shooting was justified, and they believe that the suspect might have been injured.
