Review board: Don't punish OPD officer who punched man who spit on him

ORLANDO, Fla. - A citizen's review board is siding with an Orlando police officer who punched a man who spit on him.

In video of the August incident, a man is seen approaching Officer Davis Cote while he was standing at Orange and Central avenues in downtown Orlando.

According to police, the man was drunk and spat on the officer.

In the video, Cote is seen punching the man, knocking him to the ground and then arresting him.

Officials with the Orlando Police Department found the officer was in the wrong for punching the man, and gave him a written reprimand.

On Wednesday the Citizen's Review Board voted that Cote should not have been punished at all.

The man who spat on the officer spent 90 days in jail for battery on the police officer.
