Rockledge father granted $15,000 bond after leaving infant in truck

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — A Brevard County father went before a judge Saturday morning for aggravated manslaughter charges related to the death of his infant.

Rockledge police said Steven Lillie, 31, left his 9-month-old daughter in a hot car for hours while he was at work, causing her death.

Police said even though the case appears to be a tragic accident, it still warranted charges.

Lillie forgot to drop off his daughter, Anna Maria Lillie at her grandmother’s as he rushed to work Monday, leaving her inside his Dodge Durango, where she lost her life.

“We are trying to conduct our investigation thoroughly and also sensitively to the family. We recognize the manner in which this occurred and that we had a grieving family,” said Lt. Donna Seyferth with the Rockledge Police Department.

That’s partly why police said they waited before charging the infant’s father with her death.

“I am going to miss her for the rest of my life and there is not a second that goes by that I don’t think about her,” Lillie said.

He was granted a $15,000 bond and was ordered not to be around children without another adult present.
