Sanford company builds sustainable housing for military

SANFORD, Fla. — A company in Sanford is changing the evolution of construction.

World Housing Solutions builds sustainable housing for the military.

The homes were mainly made with the military in mind and there for that purpose.

The company started the six years ago, and decided they wanted to stay clear of traditional construction and hammer out a new idea involving lightweight panels that are more affordable and efficient.

The president and CEO of World Housing Solutions, Ron Ben-Zeev, said it’s vital to give troops better options overseas, and he came up with the idea of creating fully insulated homes that can be shipped in pieces and can be constructed quickly to give troops what they need at a moment’s notice.

"So it's a win-win all the way around. So not only are they more comfortable, they save money, but they are also a lot safer," said Ben-Zeev.

Rep. Stephanie Murphy took a tour Tuesday of World Housing Solutions in Sanford.

"We have come up with a recipe that allows us to make panels that are very strong. They are hurricane rated, (and) they’re earthquake resistant. They will not mold, mildew or rot. No termites, because we don't use any wood in our system,” Ben-Zeev said.

Larger units could be built in 72 hours, and smaller units take about an hour to build.

"In this particular contract, it’s just a little over $4 million, but just in energy alone, it will pay for itself in a few years," Ben-Zeev said.

The units can be taken down easily and put back together again.

Channel 9 asked how much it all cost.

"In this particular contract, it’s just a little over $4 million, but just in energy alone, it will pay for itself in a few years," Ben-Zeev said.

The units can last up to 15 years.
