Security increased outside Osceola Regional Medical Center after carjackings, police say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Kissimmee police are still working to track down a man who they said carjacked two women near Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee.

The first carjacking happened Friday around 5:30 a.m. on Oak Commons Boulevard, which is near the hospital.

Eyewitness News first reported on the crimes Sunday.

"We didn't know it was over in this area here. It is kind of odd in an area like this,” said resident John Heaney.

The man drove the woman to the hospital parking lot and demanded cash, but when she said she didn’t have any, he jumped out of the car, police said.

Investigators said the same man carjacked a second woman in the hospital parking lot and dropped her off somewhere else.

Eyewitness News obtained a letter from a hospital employee that he received from the hospital. The letter said the hospital has enhanced parking lot lighting and has more than 300 security cameras. The hospital also added 24/7 police and security after the carjacking.

"Things are getting really crazy in this world,” Heaney said.

A spokesperson wouldn’t comment on any of the security upgrades.

Police said they’re working with the two victims to put together a description of the accused carjacker.
