Seminole County burglar caught wearing victim's shoes, deputies say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Stanley Cookston, 45, of Ocoee has been arrested on charges he burglarized a Seminole County home, deputies said.

When deputies caught up to Cookston in a wooded area on Wednesday, he was wearing the victim’s shoes and had the victim’s stolen shotgun, deputies said.

Cookston is accused of breaking into a home on Nova Road in unincorporated Sanford at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The homeowners said they noticed they were gone most of the day and said the front door was unlocked, deputies said. When they went inside, they noticed that several items, including a shotgun, jewelry and black Nike tennis shoes, were missing, deputies said.

Surveillance cameras at the home captured Crookston at the property at 2:15 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m., deputies said.

Citizens began calling 911 reporting a man with a shotgun trying to stop motorists near State Road 46 and Longwood Markham Road, deputies said. He was later found hiding in the woods, deputies said.

Cookston is charged with armed burglary, theft of a firearm, grant theft, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, a probation violation and multiple weapons offenses.
