Seminole County man to face rape charges in Virginia

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. - Channel 9 has learned a Seminole County man was just arrested on rape charges in Virginia and he was already a convicted sex offender in Florida.

Michael Carmack moved to Seminole County after he was released from prison. He faced a judge on Monday, but not many details about the Virginia charges came to light.

Channel 9's Tim Barber did some digging and found details about Carmack's past in Florida.

The 47-year-old was arrested at his Seminole County home.

A woman who lives across the street from Carmack talked with Channel 9 but asked to remain unidentified.

"I am shocked. I'm shocked. I had no idea," said the neighbor.

In 1995, Carmack was accused of molesting a 13-year-old in St. Lucie County and later pleaded no contest.

Barber stopped by Carmack's house in central Florida but the person who opened the door was not very helpful.

"Has he been doing anything that he's not supposed to?" asked Barber.

"Not that I know of. I've got nothing to say," the person said.

A woman named Sabrina who wouldn’t give her last name said she lives next door to Carmack and that he's a nice man and she believes his previous charge may have been a misunderstanding.

"Do you have any idea why he would be up in Virginia?" asked Barber.

"He was supposed to, from why I understand, be moving up there," said Sabrina.

Carmack will be extradited to Virginia at some point to face the new charges.
