Seminole Sheriff takes name out of consideration for Lt. Gov. job

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger is taking his name off the list of potential Florida Lt. Gov. candidates.

In an email sent to Sheriff's Department employees on Monday, Eslinger said he spoke with Gov. Rick Scott and told him that he was flattered to be among the four people considered for the position, but that he was declining to be further considered for the position.

In the email, Eslinger said it is his intention to continue serving as sheriff.

Eslinger has been the sheriff of Seminole County since 1990.

Former Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll resigned in March during a racketeering investigation into the Allied Veterans of the World organization.
