Sheriff misspelled on Lake County campaign signs

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Election season is inching closer, and candidates are stepping up to get the votes.

However, an Eyewitness News viewer noticed something was off on a billboard Dan Sells campaign posted for Lake County Sheriff. Sheriff was misspelled two times with an extra "r."

The misspelled sign was posted along State Road 19 in Eustis. A similar sign was posted again on County Road 473 off State Road 441 in Leesburg and across 441 from Renninger's in Mount Dora.

Late Friday, Sells told Eyewitness the mistake came from Clear Channel's art department and Sells was told the spellings on all three billboards will be fixed by May 2.

Sheriff is spelled correctly on other signs and on Sells website. The 44-year-old law enforcement veteran is running to replace Sheriff Gary Borders.

Sells said in a statement to Eyewitness News, "Nothing in life is perfect and mistakes happen. I am a reasonable person, forgiving and I only strive for excellence, but NEVER perfection. Since this isn't a perfect world with perfect humans, I exercise flexibility and move forward."
