Sheriff to recognize first Crime Free Multi-Housing complex in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings will recognize the county's first apartment complex to be designated as Crime Free Multi-Housing.

The Beacon Hill apartment complex off Dorscher Road is the first community to participate in Orange County's Crime Free Multi-Housing program.

Officials said it's a lengthy process for an apartment complex to join the program. Management at a Crime Free Multi-Housing community will evict any tenant who is arrested for a crime.

The program has proven to be successful in other areas. The city of Orlando introduced the program in 2009 and in some apartment complexes, crime dropped by 50 percent.
