Sick Oviedo teenager gets big birthday surprise from community

OVIEDO, Fla. — An Oviedo teenager who had to spend her 18th birthday in the hospital is getting a lot of support from her community.

Allie Skelly was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder in 2016.

Sue Terraglio, a family friend of the Oviedo High School student, said in a letter to Channel 9 that Allie is in a lot of pain, suffers from seizures and is currently awaiting surgery at Ronald McDonald House in Long Island, New York.

Terraglio wanted to make sure Allie, who had to drop out of school due to her illness, could still celebrate her 18th birthday.

She spread Allie’s story through social media and the community sent Allie birthday cards and care packages.
