Sisters unable to reach mother after Hurricane Maria slams Puerto Rico

Since Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico, not a moment has gone by that sisters Jeanie Lopez and Madeline Sanchez have not worried about how their mother fared during the storm.
Their normal routine in Waterford Lakes is now punctuated with a robotic voice saying, “Your call cannot be completed at this time…” as they make repeated calls to the island, trying to reach her.
“My mom texted me and said, ‘Madeline I'm okay all the trees are gone it sounds like I'm inside of a monster,’” said Sanchez.
But that was on Tuesday. Since then, most power and communications on the island have blacked out—leaving these sisters wondering if their mother is OK.
The sisters have been glued to social media since the storm hit the island, searching for news and praying for answers.
“They were talking about Villalba and they said, 'It doesn't exist.'  That's how they put it,” said Sanchez. “What kills me is that she was there by herself and I tried to tell her to come. I really should have pushed harder.”
And now these sisters say all they can do is pray their mother survived the storm.
