South Florida woman killed in crash on I-95 in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — FHP troopers said a woman from south Florida was killed in a crash on I-95 in Brevard County early Sunday.

Gilda Abolafia, 77, died in the crash that happened around 3:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 in north Brevard County.

According to officials, Gilda Abolafia was a passenger in a Toyota Camry driven by 78-year-old Murray Abolafia. For unknown reasons, Murray Abolafia left the roadway and drove towards the wood line before crashing into a large tree, troopers said.

Gilda Abolafia was rushed to Parrish Medical Center, where she died, according to troopers. Murray Abolafia was taken to Holmes Regional Hospital in serious condition.

The Abolafia's are from Boca Raton. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
