BUNNELL, Fla. - A Flagler County deputy on his way to an emergency was involved in a fatal crash Wednesday morning that left one person dead, said the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators said the deputy's cruiser collided with a van, just west of Bunnell on State Road 100 and Black Point Road.
The deputy's injuries were minor, but the van's driver, Eduardo Pacheco, was killed.
Troopers have not said who is at fault.
The van rolled over, spilling debris and construction equipment on the shoulder and in the road.
Troopers said Deputy Christopher Crego was heading west on SR-100 when he rear-ended the white van driven by Pacheco, 64, from Palm Coast.
"He was either yielding to that vehicle or starting to yield to that vehicle. At that point, the deputy's vehicle rear-ended the van, causing it to overturn into the grass shoulder, and the deputy's vehicle came to rest on the shoulder as well," said Sgt. Dylan Bryan of the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash also involved a Flagler County school bus, FHP said.
FHP said three people were on board: a driver, a school bus
aide and a special-needs student.
Troopers said the bus hit some debris, but no one was injured.
