SR 46 in Lake County reopens after being closed for brush fire

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County Fire Rescue officials have reopened State Road 46 in Sorrento.

Officials had closed SR 46 between County Road 437 and Niles Road because of a brush fire in the area.

Lake County school buses have also been cleared to drop students off after being held at their respective schools.

Fire crews said the brush fire burned 18 acres and is now 100 percent contained.

Crews worked quickly to save a dozen homes that were in the danger. One greenhouse was destroyed, officials said.

The fire is just one of many burning across Central Florida.

School buses weren't able to pick up Lake County students Tuesday morning along a closed section of State Road 44 in the Royal Trails and Pine Lakes area because of smoke from a nearby brush fire.
