ST. CLOUD, Fla. - A St. Cloud police officer is under arrest on charges of stalking a fellow cop.

Officer John Nettles turned himself in over the weekend on allegations that he stalked Officer Jennifer Hoyos, who was his ex-girlfriend.

The St. Cloud Police Chief said he is going through Nettles' file and the investigation is just getting started.

As a law enforcement officer, Nettles was granted a request to not have his mug shot released.

His time in the Osceola County jail was brief, according to records.

Nettles bonded out one hour after he was booked, but he won't be returning to work any time soon.

"We're looking at it from every angle. We want to (assure) our citizens we are policing ourselves," Sgt. Denise Roberts of the St. Cloud Police Department said.

Roberts said Nettles is on administrative leave.

Hoyos remain on the job.

Hoyos expressed fear in a 911 call but initially a captain looking into the case did not feel there was enough for a criminal investigation.

The department won't say what changed but insists the case will not be treated differently.

"It's an unfortunate case no agency wants to be in the public eye for, but it happened. So now let's handle it and move forward," Roberts said.

The chief said the investigation could take two months.
