Man arrested after 9-hour standoff with St. Cloud police

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Police said they arrested a 21-year-old man Wednesday who had barricaded himself inside a St. Cloud home for 9 hours.

Officers said Michael Chism barricaded himself inside the home on Maryland Avenue, following a fight with his girlfriend.

Neighbor Lexi Boyles told WFTV she heard several gunshots, and police told her to leave her home just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

"We asked a cop and he said the guy didn't want to leave, so I mean he's crazy. He's always arguing or fighting with his wife or girlfriend, but other than that he's crazy. He's always drunk," said Boyles.

After numerous attempts to get Chism out of the home, SWAT team members and K-9 entered the home and arrested him.

Police said Chism was unarmed and suffered minor injuries from a K-9 bite.

Chism is facing felony charges and battery and false imprisonment charges, police said.
