Store clerk charged with assault after stopping kids from stealing

ORLANDO, Fla. — A gas station clerk in Orlando is the one facing charges after two children tried to steal from his store.

Deputies said when Naile Patel saw two kids try to run out of his Chevron store with sodas, he locked the door so they couldn’t leave.

Deputies said surveillance video shows Patel grabbing a toy gun, pointing it at the kids and even slapping one of them with the back of his hand.

"Every time I lose a dollar here, it is my living, you understand what I am saying," said Patel.  "I know I made a mistake (with) what I did.  I know I should not have done that, but I did and I will pay the price when it comes to the court."

There is no word yet if the kids will face charges for stealing.

Patel's charges include aggravated assault and battery.
