Stray bullet nearly strikes Orange County woman inside her apartment

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County woman was terrified when she heard gunshots outside her apartment complex but it's what happened inside that really left her shaken.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the shots rang out after three suspects started shooting at a man who ran into the Sumerset Apartment Complex off Lee Road.

The victim's daughter, who asked to remain unidentified, said her mother had just gotten off of work when she lay down on her bed at the Sumerset Apartment Complex off Lee Road.   As soon as her head hit the pillow, she said she heard several gunshots and then found one of those bullets went through her wall and came within inches of hitting her.

"A whole bunch of gunshots at one time. She is like, 'I think that the bullet had came through the wall.' I'm like, 'Are you serious?'" the woman told Channel 9.

The victim's daughter, who also has a 2-year-old, said with the amount of crime in the area, more needs to be done by management to improve the security for residents.

In January, 19-year-old John Malagon was found shot to death outside the same apartment complex.

Management would not comment to Channel 9.

Service calls to the Sheriff's Office show 61 top priority incidents at the complex going back to January 2013.
