Student records bus driver texting behind wheel

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Hillsborough County bus driver will not be behind the wheel Friday morning because a 14-year-old student caught her texting while driving, officials said.

Cellphone video caught the driver texting while behind the wheel last week.

The girl's family who shot the video said she was actually trying to catch the driver swearing.

"When she showed me the video, I just couldn't believe it, said her mother Venus Cotto-Silva said.

"I'm scared for the kids, all of them, not just my niece, all of them, everyone on that bus," said the child's uncle, Noah Cotto.

At the end of the video, the family said the driver is seen drifting into another lane, but she quickly grabbed the wheel.

According to ABC Action News, the district pulled the driver after Wednesday's bus route. The driver is now on "non-bus" duty, pending the outcome of their investigation.

On Oct. 1, it will become illegal in Florida for anyone to text while driving.
