Students back in the classrooms at Seminole County Elementary School

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Students in a cafeteria at Wekiva Elementary School were briefly evacuated Friday morning, according to the Seminole County Fire Department.

The call was reported around 10 a.m. at 1450 E. Wekiva Trail in Wekiva Springs.

A school resource officer said several students began to cough uncontrollably, so the cafeteria was evacuated, school district officials said.

Investigators from the fire department said four patients are being assessed and that investigators are checking the air quality in the building.

Investigators said maintenance from welding caused the issue.

No food was being served at the time of the evacuation.

Students were evacuated for about 20 minutes and have seen been allowed to return, officials said.
